What is SI Joint Strain?
Low back pain is very common. The sacroiliac (SI) joint is a major source of low back pain. Pain originating from the SI joint caused due to SI joint strain is usually unappreciated, underdiagnosed, misunderstood, and usually attributed to other sources such as the hip and spine.
A patient experiencing low back pain due to SI joint strain can spend months or even years in treatment without the correct diagnosis.
Hip, spine, and SI joint pain can all overlap and be related. A patient can experience injuries related to the spine and SI joint or the hip and SI joint. If the patient has a back strain and it doesn’t improve for several months it is vital to look at the SI joint.
Weight is supported by the SI joints. Through the hip joints, SI joint transfer the weight from the spine to the lower extremities.
Symptoms of SI joint strain include:
- Lower back pain.
- Gluteal, back of the thigh, and knee pain.
- Occasional groin pain.
- Difficult and discomfort while sitting.

Causes can be:
- Leg length discrepancy.

Initial treatments included in physiotherapy are- Cryotherapy, compression bandaging, Kinesio taping, and electrotherapy.

Shotgun technique- For this, you need a strap or mulligan belt put that belt on the thigh just above your knee > get into a lye-down position with flexed knee > and now push out into the belt with your legs.
